My artwork “Ignited by Inspiration” has been selected for the cover of their 2014 Talent Calendar out of 500+ entrants. 250,000 of these desk calendars will be distributed globally.

This painting loves to travel!

After a year long tour of regional New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, Ocean and Spring will be debuting digitally at SCOPE Miami Beach Florida from Dec 3-8 2013. It will be displayed in rotation on several HD plasma screens at the See.Me Booth.

Lennox Street Studio’s exhibition was once again a wonderful weekend event. For those that dropped in, I enjoyed speaking and connecting with each one of you. One person I connected with is fashion photographer Kent Johnson. He first visited our studios on opening night then decided to come back on the final day and take some great portraits of a few artists, me included 🙂

Thanks again to everyone who helped make the studio exhibition so awesome for us artists. We love what we do but the real gift is sharing our creations with the rest of the world.

My artwork Ocean and Spring has been selected as a finalist in the 2012 Mortimore Art Prize.

The studio I create my work is in a very unique building. A disused three level Catholic school which converted into art studios in 1995 comprises of approximately 35 artists. Every year the artists hold a major art exhibition where all studios doors are open for the public to take a sneak peek. It’s definitely worth the visit.

… I told her I want to wear her oil paintings as a dress. Her colours are delicious and their application is delirious – thick , bright, swirling layers that are inspired by the lush local scenery. All I know is, I want to come on that bushwalk. Some of Karagelinian’s paintings are entirely abstract and evocative while others are more concrete subjects – mangroves, self portraits bathed in rainbows of shapes and symbols. She also has a series of large scale line drawings (I think they’re oil pastels or maybe chalk on painted canvas) of people in architectural interiors whose layers reverberate and make you feel like you’ve got x-ray vision.

My first blog!

Firstly, thank you for taking an interest in my art and website. I do very much appreciate the love and support I get from friends, family and the public. A wonderful art teacher once said to me when talking about creating art, “Just because you find it interesting doesn’t mean others will”. His point was a valid one as I know myself, not all art interests me. We all have our preferences. But saying that, I do have respect for those who put their creative souls out there for public scrutiny.

The journey of an artist isn’t any easy one, and if you are looking for fast financial reward and over night success, this is not the path for you. It takes years and a lot of hard work to find your “style”. Art is about connecting. The initial connection is with yourself. Knowing who you are or trying to uncover what is hidden inside of you and bringing that to the surface is not easy. When it is achieved however, artists explain it as being “in the flow”. The irony with being in the flow is that you can just as easily fall out of flow if enough distractions are placed around you. So attempting to stay in flow can sometimes become an internal conflict.

Then there is sharing your art with others. A lot of artists are quite secretive about their work, which makes sense, as exposing ones soul on a canvas can be very confronting. But when art is shared, others get the chance to connect with you and your work which is something I feel should not be denied. The level of connection may vary from someone viewing it in an exhibition or perhaps a “Like” or share on a social media platform. Some may even find your work influential or inspirational which assists them in creating their own work. A big compliment is having a person open their wallet and buying your work. Feeding the artist helps them to keep creating.

So far in my journey I feel that the driving forces for succeeding in my passion has been to get it out there. Nothing will happen by hiding in the studio. So with the update of my website and now a blog, I will do my best to not just get the art across to the you all, but also a journal of my thoughts and adventures. Hopefully some of you will relate and even find them helpful and interesting.
